Geo-coding
As described in Administrative Boundaries above, Postcode boundaries can be used as the basis to map marketing or other survey information. However, mapping data to Postcode level is often not detailed enough for many purposes. For instance, there may be significant demographic variance within a postcode that remains hidden if the postcode area is assumed to be homogenous.
The most common location or “spatial” key stored in most databases is street address.
Terranean can geo-code to the street address level across the whole of Australia. For example, if your organisation has 100,000 database records containing addresses spread across Australia, we can assist you to automatically geo-code these records to their real position on the ground. In effect, you can map your customer database, survey results, or any other data file containing address data. The process of Geo-coding accurately assigns your data a position on the map. Then, it is possible to integrate census data and competitive data in order to perform GIS analysis and to gain real intelligence from your data.

Street directories offer a real-world reference when navigating in a car. In the same way, a street directory or street centerline backdrop on your customised map or GIS provides a detailed and familiar backdrop to other layers.
