GIS Services Data Processing

GIS and mapping systems are becoming more powerful and easier to use; however, a mapping system is only as good as the spatial data it contains. No matter how powerful a system is – poor data will give poor results.

Terranean’s data processing services are designed to quickly and efficiently process data to the level of integrity and accuracy appropriate to your business needs.

Terranean can relieve your staff of highly technical and complex tasks, allowing them to concentrate on core business and use the organisational GIS to enhance productivity and effectiveness.

Terranean staff are skilled in a wide variety of data processing services. The following information lists some of these services. Data processing, by its nature, is highly technical, so please contact for a full explanation of the nature and the benefits of any of these processes.

Data Format Conversion: Conversion of any spatial data set stored in one format into other specified formats such as MapInfo, ARC/INFO, or AutoCAD.

Data Type Conversion: Conversion or one data type to another, for example, between vector, raster, CAD, and database data types.

Geo-Referencing of vectors and images: Involves relating unreferenced data onto a specified map projection so that it can be integrated with other spatial data. This process also may require that the data be “rubber-sheeted” into a shape that better reflects its real shape on the ground.

Conversions between coordinate systems and projections: There are a large number of co-ordinate systems and projections. Terranean can reproject all data types (e.g. raster, vector, CAD) so that information lies on the same system and therefore can be viewed correctly inside your GIS.

2D digitizing: Conversion of hard-copy maps into raster or vector format. Depending on the volume of data this can be carried out manually or by semi-automated scanning. Vector data is provided with true topology and assignment of line, point and, polygon attributes. Data can be provided in any nominated format.

Large format, high resolution colour printing: Publication-quality maps including 3D perspective displays draped with satellite or aerial photography images or vectors data such as roads and property boundaries. Our printers handle paper up to 54” wide.

Generation of high quality Digital Elevation Models (DEM) from topographic maps. Depending upon the resolution and accuracy required, we digitise contours, streams, and spot-heights.

Single Photo digitising / Ortho-rectification of vector data: Aerial photographic interpretations can be digitised from clear film overlays, into a GIS and ortho-rectified against a DEM.

Derivation of topographic variables from DEMs: Flow Accumulation, Watershed seeds, Watershed basins (catchments of specified size), Flow paths, Flow direction, Flats, Maxima & Minima, slope, azimuthal aspect, and topographic position.

Geophysical data processing to produce grids from line data, reductions to pole, upward/downward continuation, vertical derivatives, and image enhancements.
